The travel and tourism industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in the UK. The value of tourism to the UK economy is approximately £209 billion, and the sector employs around 4 million people.
In addition to the travel and tourism sector-specific content, the qualification requirements will mean that you develop transferable and higher-order skills that are highly regarded by higher education and employers.
For example, when studying ‘The World of Travel and Tourism’ unit, you will analyse information and data from the travel and tourism industry, and identify trends and the potential impact of different factors on the industry and its customers, which supports some of the skills you need to progress into higher education, employment, self-employment or training.

Students taking this qualification will study units covering:
● The World of Travel and Tourism - Interpret and analyse a variety of statistics that measure the importance of tourism to the UK.
● Global Destinations – Features, appeal and importance of different global destinations.
● Principles of Marketing in Travel and Tourism – Develop a successful marketing plan for use by travel and tourism organisations.
● Visitor Attractions – Develop an understanding of where and why people choose to go to a destination.
Students will complete one external assessment and one portfolio unit in each of Year 12 and Year 13.

Five or more GCSE (or equivalent) passes at Level 4. Minimum of a Level 4 in English Language or Mathematics GCSE.

Travel and Tourism is a vibrant and globally relevant subject that is highly valued by employers and universities across hospitality, leisure and service industries. Studying the subject develops essential understanding of tourism operations, customer service principles and destination management required for careers in travel agencies, hotels and tourism development. You will also gain valuable transferable skills such as communication, cultural awareness, organisation, problem solving and customer relations that are highly sought after across a wide range of degree programmes beyond Travel and Tourism.
