We believe that there is so much more than what you can learn in a classroom, and our students have the opportunity to experience the field through trips. Our resources enable our students to learn and develop their existing knowledge and to learn how to carry that through with them to higher education or a professional field such as: portrait photography, photo journalism, teaching and lecturing and media related work.

What will I study?

  • A-Level Photography

    Exam board: AQA

  • A-Level photography is taught over two years and includes two components which will result in a final portfolio.

    Component 1:
    Learners will learn and develop their skills in lighting and lens based imagery

    Component 2:
    Learners will have the opportunity to develop skills while experimenting with imagery.

    Each marked out of 96 and has 4 assessment objectives.

  • Five or more GCSE (or equivalent) passes at Level 4. Minimum of a Level 4 in English Language or Mathematics GCSE.

Photography is a dynamic and creative subject that is increasingly valued by employers and universities across the digital media and creative industries. Studying the subject develops essential visual literacy, technical skills and understanding of composition and lighting required for careers in photography, media production and visual communication. You will also gain valuable transferable skills such as creativity, attention to detail, project management, digital literacy and visual storytelling that are highly sought after across a wide range of degree programmes beyond photography.

Past students have progressed to study diverse courses including photography, digital media, graphic design, film studies, art and design, journalism, advertising, media production, fine art, fashion design and marketing communications.
