Choose Ryburn Sixth for your course in Sports Studies, designed to give you the opportunity to do assignments and activities based on realistic situations linked to realistic environments. 

Our specialised teachers will encourage and help you to learn and develop communication, IT, time management and teamwork skills preparing you for work in the sports sector. You will have the opportunity to showcase your sporting skills, have your performance analysed and receive guidance on how to improve, develop your coaching and performance analysis skills through practical activities and demonstrations, improve your personal fitness and take part in individual and team training sessions.

You will learn about the body in sport, exercise and fitness and preparing for working in the industry, as well as developing occupational skills such as teamwork, effective communication and problem solving.

You will also study elements of sports psychology and the effects that sport has on mental health.

  • BTEC Level 3 Sport

    Exam board: PEARSON

  • Topics covered:
    - Anatomy and Physiology (External Exam)
    - Fitness training and programming for health, sport and well-being (Externally assessed coursework)
    - Professional development in the sports industry (Internally assessed coursework)
    - Sports psychology (Internally assessed coursework)

  • Five or more GCSE (or equivalent) passes at Level 4. Minimum of a Level 4 in English Language or Mathematics GCSE.

Sports is a dynamic and practical subject that is increasingly valued by employers and universities across sports, health and fitness industries. Studying the subject develops essential understanding of human performance, coaching principles and sports science knowledge required for careers in sports coaching, fitness instruction and sports development. You will also gain valuable transferable skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, resilience, time management and motivational abilities that are highly sought after across a wide range of degree programmes beyond sports.
